Propylene carbonate is a high-purity, high-dielectric-constant (64–65) polar aprotic solvent with a high boiling point (242 °C) and low toxicity. It is widely used as a key solvent and co-solvent in lithium battery electrolytes, and as an absorption solvent for natural-gas decarbonization and desulfurization. Industrial-grade material also serves coatings, inks, cleaning and polymer applications.
